Alright, so I’ve had some questions about the link I posted and I’ll explain the basics of what is going on.
JSYK, 4chan is trying to invade Tumblr.
Here, check this out.
And this:
What is 4chan?
- 4chan is a website on the internet created by a guy named moot where the internet goes to die…it is the darkest black hole in the universe of the internet. Why? It posts countless graphic picture (gore, violence, porn [all kinds]), some of which is illegal (mostly the forum called /b/ or the random free for all forum which is the source of this “war”).
- So what’s so great about this site?
- Well, do you know lolcats? I can haz cheeseburger? Yeah, that was them. Whip your hair back and forth? Them. Chocolate Rain? Them. You know all those funny pictures that are very well photoshopped, ranging from Pokémon to the State of the Union? Them. They are advocates against animal abuse and try to stop users from posting illegal things on their site (but there is no registration and is anonymous).
- Okay, but these are just silly pictures. Why are they so infamous?
- 4chan has literally shut down and trolled websites. The Tea Party website, online player games, Yahoo Answers, Omegle, Religious Websites, etc. They are a quite capable group of computer wizs. People don’t want to get on their bad side…or at least, they didn’t. 4Chan has lost much of it’s popularity over the years because of it’s bad reputation.
- Here’s where Tumblr comes into play: As I’m sure you’ve noticed, many users post those silly pictures (called “memes”). For some reason, this has upset 4Chan (apparently people have been claiming them as their own, even though memes are public and for anyone to use). Or at least, that’s what they say. Tumblr users also have a reputation for trolling and this past Tuesday was Troll Tuesday. Tumblr users went on Omegle and trolled users by asking “What is Air?” over and over and over. Omegle is known 4Chan trolling property. After several Tumblr “troll raids”, 4Chan declared war on Tumblr. It’s all internet politics (and yes, they do exist).
- My guess, it’s probably a publicity stunt to help gain popularity and put Tumblr users “in their place” because they are the only trolls on the internet. Some even think it’s a hoax altogether. I’ve seen some blogs/articles talking about asking “Is Tumblr the new 4chan?”. Good or bad, this is a threat to 4chan.
- Why should you be worried, though?
- Because anyone that has heard of 4Chan knows what they are capable of. Better to be safe than sorry.
- Their plan is on Sunday, November 15th at 5pm to shutdown Tumblr.
- What should you do?
If you still don’t get it, go to this page:http://www.urlesque.com/2010/11/11/4chan-war-tumblr/
- Keep a look out on the posts of those who follow you and that you follow. If you see anything out of the ordinary, delete them, unless you want to chance illegal images replying to your posts and sending you messages.
Choose between these two options.
